I-5 North
On our way up to Eugene early this afternoon: Mount Shasta and Interstate 5, shot from the Sweetbrier Drive overpass about 20 miles south of the town of Mount Shasta.
The mountain was visible from the road well down in the Sacramento Valley -- south of the town of Willows. By the time we were climbing into the mountains north of Redding, the sky began to cloud up. But the summit and upper slopes of Mount Shasta itself remained sunlit until we had passed.
Made it to Eugene just fine, though it's so cold (by our standards) coming over the mountains--temperatures down into the teens at night and snow and ice along the road--that I was a little concerned about how good the traction really was. Over Canyon Creek Summit, about 100 miles south of Eugene, we saw a car overturned in the southbound lanes, with about five state police cars in attendance and an ambulance just arriving.

Great photo Dan. It reminds me of the volcanoes I saw in New Zealand.
